We鈥檙e excited to share that Italy has officially joined the CCI system as of November 8, 2024, marking another step forward in the digital transformation of customs procedures across the EU. This follows Croatia, which joined the system on September 30, 2024, and eight Member States鈥擝ulgaria, Estonia, Spain, Luxembourg, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Romania鈥攖hat pioneered the system鈥檚 implementation in July 2024.
The CCI system is designed to simplify, centralize, and digitalize customs clearance processes under the Union Customs Code (UCC). It allows businesses to submit declarations in their home country while facilitating the physical clearance of goods in other EU countries.
Key Benefits of the CCI System
馃搱 Boosted efficiency: Faster clearance of imported goods.
馃搼 Simplified procedures: No need for transit declarations.
馃 Reduced administrative workload: A single point of contact for businesses.
馃挵 Cost savings: Centralized processes improve transparency and compliance.
馃寪 Competitive edge: Easier cross-border trade within the EU.
How It Works
In its first phase, the CCI system automates the processing of standard customs declarations for free circulation, customs warehousing, inward processing, and end-use across participating Member States. This seamless integration minimizes administrative hurdles while ensuring the smooth movement of goods across borders.
Looking Ahead
The next phase of the CCI system, scheduled for release on June 2, 2025, will expand its functionalities to include simplified declarations, entry into declarant鈥檚 records, and processing of excise goods.
With Italy and Croatia now onboard, the CCI system continues to expand, supporting EU businesses and fostering trade facilitation. We look forward to seeing more Member States join this transformative initiative!
